You know, we need more anime channels on cable and satellite. Right now, the demand is far below the suppply. Anime is extremely popular and there is not much out there to satify us. I am so fed up with Survivor, Fear Factor, and all that garbage on tv. I want more cartoons!! At least they usually teach my kid a lesson. )
There is some additional anime coming very soon. Tech TV has just announced an anime block:
Schedule:
New Episodes, Mon.-Fri., 1am-1:30am ET;
Additional Airings, Fri., 11pm-1am ET and 1:30am-3am ET
Format: Half-Hour Series and Movie Specials
Premiere Date: December 30, 2002
Series and Movie Titles
Series: Betterman
Series: Crest of the Stars
Series: Dual!
Series: Serial Experiments Lain
Series: Silent Mobius
Movie: Armitage III Polymatrix
Movie: Ghost in the Shell
Movie: Macross Plus
Movie: Patlabor I
You'd better watch your VCR tapings before showing some of these shows to your kids, but I suspect "Crest of the Stars" and "Dual!" might be something they would enjoy (though Dual! had lousy sequel 14th episode).
Added note: Thunderbirds is showing every day at 3:30 p.m. and at 9 p.m. Thursdays on Tech TV. No, it's not an anime, but something the Japanese have long admired (they made an anime sequel to Thunderbirds, and even their own anime Supermarionation show). If you and your kids never watched this 1960s show before, I guarrentee you're in for a real treat. This is the greatest puppet show ever made (yes, that includes the best of the Muppets), and one of the greatest sci-fi action shows ever made--period.
Also, on Dec. 30 the International Channel will start showing "Fushigi Yugi" and "Soul Hunter" at 11 p.m. Monday-Tuesday. They're already showing Dragonball GT (untranslated), Slayers and El Hazard on Sunday and Wednesday nights.
