You know, Shippo looks cute, and he's still a child and everything, but every now and then you're reminded that he's a demon. More mischievous than cruel, but that was still pretty cruel. Kagome was positively BESIDE HERSELF with guilt over her treatment of Kilala. For that, at least, Shippo deserves every beating he's gotten from Inuyasha. <G>
It does bring up an interesting thought, though. I've always thought of Kilala as sentient, and despite the fact that Inuyasha called her "the other child", relating her to Shippo, in fact she is far older than ANY of them. We've seen in her memories how she was the partner of the priestess who first created the Sacred Jewel. (Midoriko?) I wasn't sure how she came to be with Sango, but if her father gave her to her, then she must have been the guardian of the village for generations.
Yet, Kilila is the only one in the group who can't talk. She seems to do what anyone asks of her without hesitation, yet she can't say whether she enjoys doing it, or feels used. I think her attitude shows it's the former, but the others would still probably have felt better about their "mistakes" if they had been able to get that feedback from her. It's interesting that even Miyoga so takes for granted her help that he came to her immediately, even though he's not really part of the group.
And finally, I noted her name was spelled "Kirara", even though it's quite obviously pronounced "Kilala". That must be the original Japanese pronunciation, which the American actors decided to keep. They left the spelling the same, though, rather than change it to match. It always impresses me when they do stuff like that. <G>
