It's March 27th, 2005. Thus marking 5 years that I have known you guys and been on ezBoard (not with this account, mind you).
It also marks the coming of my official title as "15-year-old". Huzzah.
I'll try and do some sort of backstory crap and then make some sappy thank-you's and stuff, as I have in years past, but considering the number of people still coming here regularly, I don't know if it would really turn out. O.o
Anyways... so 5 years ago, I, in my 10-year-old stupidity, decided to go find some good strategies for Monster Rancher. Web search reveals... *dun dun dunnnn* Monster-Rancher.com! So I click on it, look around for awhile, and then notice one particular link on the sidebar. "Message Board". I'm thinking, "wtf is a message board?" And then I click it. I'm lead to this magical place of a board (or rather, 2 versions past (iirc (or was it just one?))).
The best method of exploration for this new place? Click everything you can. I read around a bit, and was enlightened to some... "higher-level vocabulary" *cough*OT*cough*, and was extremely intrigued with the Monster Rancher 1 forum. I still vividly remember NK not being the nicest of individuals to me upon my arrival in that particular part of the board. ^^; However, I think that was justified, considering who he had to deal with. Me, except exponentially more ignorant and stupid than I am now.
Oh yeah, so I made a local account (mochi (yes, I know it's spelt wrong)) and started posting a little bit. Over time, I learned more and more of the sub-culture behind the Monster Rancher image of the board, and found myself not getting into as many situations where I was like, "Huh?" About 2 months after making this "mochi" account, however, I realized that there were actually OTHER ezBoards out there. Crap. So I had to make a Global Account. BUT, I was stumped for names. Everything I could think of was taken (mind you, a 10-year-old could probably only think of oh-so-many names, so it wasn't hard to be stumped) so I resorted to random pressing of keys and tried over and over again until I came up with something that I could pronounce. So I got "kiduf". For 5 years I've been trying to think of some sort of BS story for the name that wouldn't be so stupidly stupid, but alas, nothing.
I continue learning and posting at the board. You read right. I learned here. This was like a second school for me. Instead of learning math and science, I learned culture. As a result of this, I usually found myself much more aware of things that my friends would only pick up on much, MUCH later. For instance, sporks have been discussed on this board for a loooooong time, no? Sporks were not even spoken of in a humorous manner with my "IRL" friends until about 6 months ago.
For the next 4 and a half years, I'd go through some tough times, and some stellarly great times, and you guys would always be there. If it weren't for you guys giving me your sagely advice, all from past experience, no less, I wouldn't be the person I am today. Though I tended to boast my cynicism in the past, being a part of a close-knit community like this has really opened my eyes to the goodness of people around me. Knowing you has kept my intellectual ability in place, as well. If it weren't for you guys showing me that individuals who prided themselves on grammar, spelling, and general tact could have a good time with regular people, then I have a feeling that I'd be one of those stuck-up nerds wandering the halls with a pocket-protector today.
Speaking of spelling, grammar, and tact, that is something I'd probably never have if not for the witty humor of individuals like Richard, Berge, or MamaNya throughout the years.
I've focused alot on the "great learning experience" aspect so far, but haven't really touched on the really good stuff: "stupidly stupid fun". Posting wars with GK, making up stupid scenarios in OT topics with LM, doing... stuff... with PW *cough* (which I regret to no end, by the way, so shut up), and the numerous Monol Feasts that popped up for the first 2 and a half years. I don't really know what happened to Monol Feasts... or whether Lord Gali has ever gotten his mask back from that rather deadly game of frisbee. All of you that I found myself in stupid situations with that either resulted in boredom-induced personal attack fights or just random gabbering... I totally owe you one. I'd be just a regular old bland grade 9 student if it weren't for you guys showing me the real good time.
I really am amazed at how the community has still remained intact after all this time, even in this mellow state. I know I've had my memorable moments with most (if not all) of you, so if I didn't mention you above, sorry; I'm just typing whatever pops into my head. Thanks, everyone, for 5 years of growth and awesomeness!
